Anthem Community Council Honors Local Business Leaders

For the second year, the Anthem Community Council (ACC) was proud to recognize two Anthem business owners for their outstanding community service efforts and reinvestment initiatives within the community. Andrew Zychowski and Rose Urness were awarded the 2013 ACC Business Awards during a December reception held at the Anthem Golf & Country Club, Ironwood.
Hosted in conjunction with the Anthem North Gateway Chamber of Commerce, the ACC awarded Andrew Zychowski the Excellence in Community Service award, an award that recognizes commercial/non-residential business and property owners who have demonstrated outstanding civic and community service that sets an example for commitment to public service.
Nominated by other Anthem residents or business owners, the Zychowski family was recognized for their ongoing efforts through their Secret Santa program, support of ProMusica Arizona, and their volunteer contributions to other various community events. Andrew and his family continue to demonstrate consistent support to the community-at-large.
Also during the reception, Rose Urness of Creative Castle Preschool and Kindergarten was presented the Best Exterior Commercial Property Improvement award for turning a 1/2 acre parcel, once filled with debris and weeds, into a lively and safe outdoor playground environment. The award recognizes commercial business and property owners, tenants and/or property management firms who have made an investment in the Anthem community by making significant exterior improvements to their individual commercial properties. These improvements have, in turn, improved and upgraded appearance of the area, and continue to make a positive impact on their neighbors in the business community.
Established in 2013, the ACC business award program was designed to complement the ACC board of directors’ economic development initiative by recognizing efforts of local businesses that support vibrancy and encourage future reinvestments within Anthem.
Andrew Z's Gift Giveaway
A Gift a Day, Black Friday-Christmas Eve! Since 2009

Writer Stephanie Maher Palenque
There is perhaps never more hoopla surrounding the holiday season in Anthem than when Andrew Zychowski of Andrew Z Diamonds and Fine Jewelry begins his annual gift giveaway. This season, he will be doing it for the seventh year in a row, to the delight of residents all over the Anthem area.
The festivities kick off on Thanksgiving night and extend through Christmas Eve. Each gift-wrapped treasure is worth between $25 and $100. It might be a watch one day, a bracelet another or any number of items that are sold in Andrew Z’s store in Anthem. Instead of gift giving during the traditional “12 Days of Christmas,” Andrew extends the gift giving to a gift on each of the 30 days preceding Christmas and, to keep everyone on their toes, he may even throw in a bonus gift on certain days. The gift of the day is then hidden somewhere in Anthem and the hints are posted on Andrew Z’s Facebook page. The hint might be a picture, a map or even a poem.
Since Andrew started sharing secret hints on social media, the stakes have been raised. Men, women and children all over Anthem anticipate his daily hints, keys in hands, ready to pounce on an unopened treasure.
Andrew insists that he has the most fun, though. His fun has increased, since he can now track through social media who found the gifts and how they found them. He, along with his wife, Beth, and his son, Scott, have a merry time reading through comments and notes to them on Facebook, like the one from Celeste West Cate last year: “Andrew, we didn’t find any of the gifts, but sure had fun trying! You and Beth (and Scott) ROCK! Thank you so much for all you do for our community. We are so blessed. Wishing you all Christmas blessings in abundance. Can’t wait for more games to challenge us next year!”
Lisa Sassone wrote, “Purchased a gift from your store today and I am so excited to have jewelry from your store! I never found a hidden gift but it feels good to spend my hard-earned money at a local store that values customer service and has beautiful, quality products. We will forever be loyal customers for the service you gave us but also for what you do for the community. Merry Christmas!!
Andrew’s gift-giving venture brings out the little kid in all of us during the holidays. It’s the unbridled excitement that comes with finding a gift-wrapped treasure, opening it up and discovering a gift that was lovingly prepared and given to us. Wouldn’t it be a happy holiday season if everyone took a cue from this local secret Santa? Happy hunting!

(ANTHEM) - The Chamber of Commerce at Anthem announced Andrew Zychowski of Andrew Z Diamonds & Fine Jewelry as the recipient for the Anthem Small Business Person of the Year Award.
This annual recognition is in now in its seventh year and is awarded to a member of the Chamber of Commerce at Anthem who exemplifies the Chamber’s commitment to community involvement, innovation, business accomplishments and integrity. Zychowski moved to Anthem seven years ago and was unsure of what his next steps should be. However, through the relationships he made at the Chamber of Commerce at Anthem he was encouraged to start his own business.
With the growth and success of his business, Zychowski has become a major contributor to the arts and is a supporter of the Arts Council of the North Valley. He is currently in the middle of his “Gift a Day” promotion that places a wrapped gift somewhere within the Anthem Community for a lucky resident to find everyday between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The promotion drew statewide attention last year and brought shoppers to the Anthem business district.
